I disagree, there is a dramatic psychological difference between awarding participation versus awarding effort.

Team sports do wonders for many. But there are quite a few that excel in other areas other than sports.
Sports was useless to me. It made kids aggressive and many turned to bullies
I ran and Lettered in Cross Country, and Music
I’ve seen sports cause significant self-esteem issues.
It does… now that i have a few kids that seems to be the same for them
Most men learn and retain more effectively in the dirt or on the field, but many a boy has lost confidence when pushed to try sports, but not being able to self select other areas of activity.
Even 4 and 5 year olds understand the difference between participation versus effort.

Cross Country is different because you battle your own best score, only one of the two years I ran did we even have a team, so my experience was different.
Where is the creativity? Sports create drones for College and for scholarships
I picked all my own activities which were enough to get me into college. I had way more music activities than anything else,and also Student council
The problem is not the need for sports, but just as Wagner said, “they need to have a PARENT”
I do… I know most of the kids on my daughters high school.. a lot of good kids. But they all thought they would get the scholarships… so much disappointment
I could never find a good coach for “Underwater Basket Weaving.”
Schools use sports to gain money and notariaty

Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it isn’t fish they are really searching for.
I support participation trophies as well as achievement trophies and awards & since I had a higher achievement status at younger age and had a little brother with Down Syndrome who participated in a Yearly Special Olympics I absolutely appreciate & volunteer every chance I had & get .
