Cancer SUCKS! #RandomActsOfLightDay

Today is Random Acts of Light Day. Although it sounds like an average day to do something kind for someone else, today is special. #RandomActsOfLightDay is a day devoted to doing acts of service for those you know that have been afflicted by the “C” Word… Cancer.

Most people don’t know that I have been affected by cancer running rampant through my family. My aunt, mother and grandmother have all died from cancer and my sister has brain cancer. Watching the way cancer destroys the body is heartbreaking, but experiencing the emotional battles of the participants is almost as challenging.

Although much of the way our body reacts to illness and disease has to do with how we treat our bodies and the environmental factors involved, our mindset is also a critical piece in healing. I’m not suggesting that a positive perspective will heal people of cancer, but I am saying that studies have proven that the more positive the person’s outlook is, the more likely they are to experience less pain and more benefits.

When we take the time to complete a Random Act of Light, it lifts the spirits of the person who is trying to heal, while producing endorphins and positive hormones into your own system as well. I had a friend named Gail who needed weekly visits to the hospital for her treatments and was kind enough to allow some of her friends in the rotation to take her. We played cards and talked about everything and I even made some scrapbooking samples while waiting. Spending that day with her, providing support and encouraging her left both of us with a content feeling in our hearts. We didn’t cure the cancer, but we did provide some support to her immune system by laughing and connecting.

If you are familiar with my #12Books12Months series, you know that I am all about positive mindset and encouraging connection. I wish my mother had still been here when I wrote Evict the Bully in Your Head. It is a fun and funny book that helps us #EvictTheBully and engage the Headspace Heroes like Faith, Peace, Joy, Confidence & Courage. If I had to take a friend to a treatment again, I would bring this book and read it aloud to encourage whomever was in ear shot. Then I would stand up and show them my “Not today Bully, not today.” Super Stance, and #DoTheBubbleBump. If you haven’t read the book yet, check it out.  If you have, send me a video of you doing the #BubbleBump so we can encourage someone else.

If you can’t go visit your friend, you could read to them over the phone or maybe your Random Act of Light could be to send them a copy. You can order an autographed copy right here and I will ship it out to them.  If you also provide their email, I will even send them an encouraging video to keep their spirits up and their Hope high. In honor of #RandomActsOfLightDay you can use coupon code CancerSucks today to save $5 on the purchase of Evict the Bully in Your Head or $25 off the entire #12Books12Months series.

So, take a moment to encourage someone who is affected by cancer today. Call, text, voice message, write a card or visit someone experiencing this difficult journey. Your Random Act of Light, will inspire them, while blessing you!

Until next week,

Dream it, Believe it, Achieve it! – Vicki
